Summer time... begone.
I know, I know, you probably disagree...
I’ll just start off by saying, I’m so tired of summer. Do I enjoy the activities that come with it like Sunday nights at the river with friends followed by Dairy Queen runs? Do I enjoy swimming in our dirty algae covered pond? And, if I’m lucky, getting the opportunity to swim in a nice pool? Yeah I enjoy all those things. But do you see what they all have in common? Water. That I can swim in and NOT feel the heat of summer. So, basically, the only thing I enjoy about summer is the fun way of avoiding it.
Two more pros for summer: fresh garden produce. And, long evenings before it gets dark.
So, in summary, the pros of summer:
fresh garden produce
long summer nights
swimming
The cons of summer, in summary:
Humidity. Every single day at a minimum of 45% humidity. BLAH
The heat. No explanation needed.
The dust.
The misquitoes, ticks, and chiggers.
The heat. Again, no explanation needed.
The expense of trying to keep a house cool, which is why ours is never cooler than 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
Waking up sweaty.
The kids not wanting to play outside because of… the heat.
The lack of being able to make soup for supper. Sad.
Grocery shopping sucks. Who wants to walk on top of hot pavement with hot sunshine shining on you? Not me.
Ok we’ll stop there but suffice it to say, I can’t wait for fall. I can’t wait for cool weather, that smell in the air. I’m so excited for hoodies, and sweaters, and hot spiced chai. Thanksgiving?? Oh yeah, baby!
The one con of fall? There’s this holiday called Halloween which I don’t particually enjoy. I’m always ready for Christmas and the removal of all the skeletons and ghosts in the yards of our neighbors.
We just had a week of the loveliest fall weather and it made me so sad when the heat came back. I’m ready to be able to do my walks outside again without ending up drenched in sweat, I’m tired of the treadmill.
Enough about that rant. On to more interesting and probably less controversial topics.
Namely, I’m not looking forward to my move very much. I’m leaving home for a year of service in December and as it’s getting closer I’m realizing I’m not feeling very ready for that yet. I’m very very excited but the realization of it all is really hitting home right now.
And our family is the process of buying a large farm which is crazy exciting but also making the next couple months look crazy with getting ready to move and all.
The newest member of our family arrived safely 3 weeks ago and he is doing wonderful! Super fun having a newborn in the house again.
I’ve been fully enjoying my last month of unemployment and I plan to fully enjoy the next three months of it before I start working full time for the first time in my life. Up till now I’ve only ever done 4 days a week. That will change next year. I’m looking forward to it.
I’ve been able to get a lot of projects done like some altering on some skirts, some other sewing, some major organizing in my room, and getting my sourdough going again.

A couple questions I’d love for you to answer in the comments:
Do you like summer? Are you glad it’s getting to the end or is that devastating to you?
What big things are coming up this year that have you excited and/or terrified?

I'm very sad that summer will be over soon (even though it's been unusually hot and windy and we've had a lot of smoke) because winter hits about mid October/early November, and it lasts SEVEN MONTHS. And I hate winter with a burning passion 😭 summer is pretty much the only time of year we can do anything 🥲
Yep, that's the South all right 🥲 nope I'm in Wyoming, but close enough lol (Wyoming doesn't actually exist). I don't think I'd mind the winter quite as much of it wasn't for the AWFULl wind.
